The Clark Atlanta University’s PantherFit Center located in the Bishop Cornelius Henderson Student Center has made some major improvements for the 2018-2019 school year after being open only 19 months.
This year’s goal is to “promote a new wave health, wellness, and fitness throughout campus,” director Marcus Kendic Jr said.
The PantherFit Center offers a variety of equipment such as ellipticals, treadmills, stationary bikes, Smith Machine, battle & jump ropes, medicine balls, liberator machine, dumbbell rack (up to 50lbs.), resistance bands, agility ladder, step platforms, hula hoops, and floor mats.
Along with promoting overall wellness, PantherFit has initiated new group fitness classes that includes a yoga class. Buti Yoga has become very popular among the students as it is a new upbeat version that is more interactive than just regular yoga.
PantherFit now has two cycling instructors that lead intense sessions. The cycling classes are a student favorite as more students begin to participate and get active.
CAU junior, Ashleigh Carter spends most of her time in the PantherFit Center in the cycling classes. “Classes are high energy, tons of fun, and great coaches that make sure you are involved,” Carter said. She tries to go to the PantherFit Center 2-3 times a week.
Students attend the PantherFit Center to maintain a healthy lifestyle. “I go to the PantherFit to tone my body by doing vast cardio exercises to improve my health and wellness,” CAU Muna Eresia-Eke said.
Kendrick is already looking towards the future as he plans to start up self defense classes for the whole student body. In addition to the classes, he has already ordered new equipment such as a free squat rack and heavy punching bags to “enhance the variety of options.”
