Honoring businesses and organizations since 2005, Creative Loafing added with the staff some Atlanta enthusiasts to this year’s judging panel. WCLK’s general manager, Wendy Williams shared what this recognition meant to the entire team. “Jazz 91.9 WCLK is valued by its community of listeners, peers and friends. It means our hard work and effort to preserve and grow this mainstay for Jazz in Atlanta is reaping dividends.”
Williams explained how working with “a cohort of incredibly talented staff, announcers and supporters to include our licensee Clark Atlanta University, the WCLK Advisory Board and the Jazz Preservation Society,” aides in the delivery of honorable radio programming.
“Our goal is to continue utilizing rapidly changing technologies to provide a unique experience for our listeners through a multitude of emerging platforms, i.e. mobile app, music streams from our website, and broadcast on 91.9 FM,” Williams said. “In addition to our contemporary Jazz broadcast, we offer program streams to mainstream Jazz lovers and to students via the student HD 3 channel.”
There is something for everyone, Williams added. Students are welcomed to stop by the WCLK office to learn about internship opportunities, volunteer positions during the Spring and Fall membership drive or the work-study program.
Production/programming assistant, Jahmi Wellman shared how he has learned a lot and grew as a person while working at WCLK. The CAU computer science alumnus went from interning to now holding a position at the station going on four years.
“I actually enjoy the production and the creation process of building spots from the ground up,” Wellman said. “From its inception to the dream realized in hearing the end product on the radio.”
Atlanta’s Best Radio station continues to deliver viable Jazz, gospel and information formats to their audience and have not strayed away from their initial mission which is to uplift, educate and entertain. Listeners worldwide have been receiving local perspectives of Atlanta conveyed by knowledgeable announcers for over 44 years.
Tune in to Jazz 91.9 WCLK, where Williams assures an oasis from all of the clutter found on talk radio and political bantering.
