The Clark Atlanta Lady Panthers Softball team split a double-header with Fort-Valley State University Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 9-0, but losing the next game 12-2 at Lady Panther Stadium.
The Lady Panthers offense came alive early in the first inning as CAU had three runs on just two hits. CAU’s Lady Panthers followed up with five more runs in the second inning to put the game out of reach.
In Game 2, Fort Valley State University took away a 1-0 deficit and grabbed a 5-1 lead early. The Lady Wildcats capped on two runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning as they went on to win.
This was a very big series for the Lady Panthers due to the fact they were tied with Benedict College for second place in the SIAC East race. After Saturday’s win the Lady Panthers grabbed sole possession of second place after benedict dropped two games to Albany State University Saturday.
Clark Atlanta University are 5-3 in conference play while Albany state is 8-2. The Lady Panthers continue to be paced by junior pre-season All-SIAC player Tatianna Kelly, a utility player who plays in the infield and pitches so far this season.
Kelly hit .429 with nine hits and two home runs during the Crossover. Chase Gray-Still hit .533 with eight hits, eight RBIs and a double last weekend, while Keshonna Terrell had seven hits, two triples and eight RBIs in batting .438.
